Ethernet is rapidly becoming the desired Direct To Internet line connection. Where it is available, it can be a very cost effective means to establish a high-speed Internet connection. When speeds greater than about 5MBps are required, it generally is less expensive to order an Ethernet line than 4 bonded T1s. The cost of Ethernet is very much dependent on the location. It is not unusual to find 10MBps Ethernet service priced between $100 and $130 per MBps. T1s can be found for as low as about $200 per MBps.

Ethernet, on the other hand, is much less expensive. On lower speed Ethernet circuits, costs are around $100 to $130 per MBps. But, as speeds increase to 50 or 100MBps, costs quickly fall to $20 to $40 per MBps.
Ethernet can also be very scalable. It generally is very easy to grow an Ethernet connection along with your business. As the business is small and young, a lower speed on the Ethernet circuit is adequate. As the business grows, speed can be increase to match the traffic needs.
